Sea Oak (Phycodrys rubens) is one of Britain’s most recognisable red seaweeds, known for its soft, leaf-like fronds and subtle colour variation. For this piece, we selected a specimen with smaller, finely detailed fronds and arranged it vertically to highlight the natural curve and upward sweep of the plant.
Hand-collected from the Devon coastline, this Sea Oak was carefully pressed and dried over several weeks to preserve its delicate structure. Rich crimson tones gather towards the centre of the plant, gradually softening into translucent pink at the tips, a natural colour shift that gives the composition depth and quiet movement.
By positioning the specimen vertically, we’ve allowed the overall silhouette to feel elegant and statuesque, making it particularly suited to narrower wall spaces or areas where you want gentle structure without heaviness.
