Seaweed Art and Seaweed Pictures

We spent the beginning of summer 2022 on the beaches of the South coast, the Isle of Wight and Cornwall, collecting seaweed specimens for pressing and pieces of seaweed to paint. 

We now have a full range of seaweed prints for you, so if you're looking for botanical prints, you've come to the right collection. 

They include a set of watercolour paintings of seaweed, which Brian painted in our studio, and seaweed pressings that Sarah found, mainly on the south coast around Dorset and the Isle of Wight but also on the northern beaches of Devon and Cornwall.

We painted a series of watercolour seaweeds; Brian researched the best specimens of seaweed he could find in a range of species. He painted certain seaweeds because of how they will look in your home interior. That's why he has painted them in a beautiful indigo watercolour on museum-quality watercolour paper. 

We now have 12 paintings in the seaweed art collection for you to choose from. 

They work amazingly as a single image and have a vintage print feel. We have also deliberately chosen seaweeds that complement and contrast with one another in shape and structure for grouping prints together to create striking gallery walls.

We also have a collection of pressed seaweed prints, which have been collected around the coast of the UK. We collect the seaweed at low tide, when the rock pools on the beaches are most exposed or when the tide has left the seaweed lying on the sand. 

We hand-collected delicate British red seaweed pressing art prints. The pieces of seaweed were sustainably sourced from our local beaches.

Once the seaweed has been collected, we take them back to the studio to clean them before placing them on paper. We do this with a fine paintbrush before lifting the paper and pressing the seaweed. 

The seaweed pressing time varies, but watercolour paper can take a while to dry. Once they are dry, we glue the seaweed in areas that need them and take high-resolution photos of them. We then add the species of the seaweed print to the bottom in a traditional front, and they're now ready to be wall art for you to buy!

 It's been a long process, but it has been amazing to be able to go to the beach for work! These authentic beach art prints from the UK remind us slightly of the natural history museum specimens we saw there in our childhoods.

They are stunning prints in rich earthy tones which have been colour matched to the original specimens and are ideally suited for autumn/winter home decor.
