Fan Weed No. 1 is one of our most distinctive pressed seaweed prints, celebrated for its bold shape, flowing form, and rich pink-red tones. Created from a real British seaweed specimen collected by us along the south coast of Cornwall, this artwork captures the striking beauty of marine botanicals in their natural form.
The original specimen, Stenogramma interruptum, commonly known as Papery Fan Weed, was chosen for its elegant fan-shaped fronds and naturally vibrant pigment. Its structure feels both delicate and confident, making it a standout piece within our seaweed collection.
Once collected, the seaweed is carefully arranged and pressed in our studio using traditional botanical techniques. Layered between sheets of textured watercolour paper and weighted for several weeks, the pressing process preserves every fine vein and branching detail.
When fully dried, the pressed specimen is scanned at ultra-high resolution and gently refined to ensure the final print remains true to the original colour, texture, and form. The result is a detailed, expressive botanical artwork that reveals more the longer you look.
