Portrait Wall Art & Prints

Explore our collection of portrait wall art, from coastal paintings and seaweed watercolours to botanical studies and abstract prints. Vertical wall art works particularly well on narrower walls, in hallways or in spaces between windows and doorways.

Living with Portrait Wall Art

There's a reason portrait prints are one of our most popular formats. Their upright proportions bring height and balance to a room, working just as well as a statement piece on a generous wall as they do in a smaller space.

Can portrait prints work above a sofa or bed?

Very much so. While landscape artwork often follows the width of the furniture beneath it, portrait prints offer a different approach. A single large piece creates a strong focal point, particularly beneath a picture light, while two or three prints displayed together can fill a wider wall. The important thing is to consider the overall proportions of the arrangement, rather than the size of each print individually.

Why does coastal artwork work so well in portrait?

We often think of coastal art as wide seascapes and distant horizons, but some of the most interesting details of the coast lend themselves to a portrait composition. The branching forms of seaweed, the graceful shape of a heron, coastal plants and even the movement of water from shore to sea can be particularly striking in a vertical format.

A portrait composition allows these individual details to take centre stage, bringing a little of the natural beauty and character of the coast into your home.
